The Midas Touch
Am I seen? Am I heard?
A touch - a real touch - from a Christian physician may not turn one's life to gold, but it definitely makes someone feel more valuable, instantly. Just ask Arturo, who had just spent the night of the 28th of August on the rain-drenched streets of downtown San Antonio under the overpass of Houston St.
The aches and pains of normal health complications seem easily amplified when you don't know where your next meal is coming from or you had to drift in and out of sleep all night for fear of possible theft or even assault. Life can surely become sore trying to fend for yourself against a flood of rejection, missed opportunities, and dead-end addictions.
Thank God for the timely placed respite during the medical and dental clinic for those experiencing homelessness held on the 29th of August, 2026. Thank God for the timely placed hand of concern and support from professionals such as Dr. Randy Vanover, MD.
"During these CMDA outreaches, I really try to slow down and take the time to hear each story, value each person, and care for the child of God seeking assistance before me!" It is a wonderful time when we can fight back against the denigrating and disparaging assessments of a soul's worth. It is coincidently a beautiful opportunity to mentor future health care providers to see with the eyes of Jesus and of course, extend the hand of genuine concern.
Christ did it! He was recorded on several occasions reaching out to touch the sick, the bruised, the forgotten and down-trodden and yes, even the unclean! Even though stern warnings were given for avoiding contamination by contact with the unclean, he believed in the transferable ritual cleanliness passed by touch. Supreme holiness found in the "holy of holy" sacrifices could also consecrate what it contacted (Lev. 6:27).
Christ is still doing it through us! At our clinic, grand steps of faith were taken by first-time volunteers. Valuable offerings of time and availability were placed upon God's altar by those return veteran health care providers, who come back time after time to serve. Behind-the-scenes logistics were prepared by countless unsung heroes. Behind-the-screens donations were made by generous givers in diverse quarters. All of this has been done in hopes that God's transformational touch may continue on in and through us! May they be seen! May they be heard!
